President's message
Welcome to the online platform of the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka (COAISL). I am honoured to serve as the 31st President of COAISL with the aim of enhancing patient care and safety of all citizens. The role of the anaesthesiologist has evolved far beyond the operating room. We are now recognized as perioperative physicians, providing comprehensive care for patients throughout their surgical journey. This platform reflects this expanded role, offering resources and fostering collaboration to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients…!
World Anaesthesia Day
Today, the 16th of October, World Anaesthesia Day and World Restart a Heart Day, dawns with a promising future to the Anaesthesia Community in Sri Lanka and worldwide.
Our members achieved landmark victories and recognition in Sri Lanka as well as overseas during this year.
An array of activities for public awareness and member engagements is planned to commemorate today’s significance.
As the President of COAISL I wish all our members a happy World Anaesthesia Day and World Restart a Heart Day!
Let us commit to uplift our services further in the future!

Colombo, Sri Lanka — 13 October 2025
At the 78th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia (SEARO), the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) and Smile Train, co-hosted an official side event titled “Cleft to Coverage: Strengthening Anaesthesia and Surgery for Children in the South-East Asian Region.”
The event gathered a wide range of clinicians, policymakers, and Ministry of Health representatives from across the region.
Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health & Mass Media, Sri Lanka, delivered the keynote address.
